4Ward Ever are having some technical issues which are preventing their email bulletins from being issued. They are working hard to resolve the issue and in the meantime some alerts are still being issued. Sweeney's death came as the IPCC continues its investigation into the death in police custody of the musician Smiley Culture, who died of a suspected stab wound after officers carried out a raid.

LigaliThe protest which was organised by the Campaign for Justice for Smiley Culture alongside other community campaigners such as Minkah Adofo, of the United Friends and Family Campaign (UFFC) campaign against deaths in police custody and Maxie Hayles, of the Birmingham Racial Attacks Monitoring Unit (BRAMU) followed Smiley’s Friday funeral.

In-custody death rate is highest in B.C.

More than half of all RCMP in-custody deaths in Canada over the past five years occurred in B.C. despite the fact only a third of the force's officers work here, an internal report prepared by the force has found. The report, obtained by The Vancouver Sun through the Access to Information Act, provides a detailed analysis of all 80 RCMP in-custody deaths from 2002 through 2006, including police shootings.
