UK Embassy Sends In French Police Against TOTAL RESPECT

BRENDA NAMIGADDE & JAMAL ALI SAÏD AFFAIR:
UNITED KINGDOM EMBASSY SENDS IN FRENCH POLICE AGAINST TOTAL RESPECT

Rivière-Pilote, Tuesday 1 March 2011

_

On Saturday 26 February and again on Tuesday 1 March TOTAL RESPECT - TJENBÉ RÈD FÉDÉRATION demonstrated in front of the United Kingdom’s Embassy in Paris.

This Federation, rooted in the Afro-Caribbean communities fighting against all forms of racism, homophobia and AIDS, asked the British Prime Minister, David CAMERON, not to expel either the lesbian activist Brenda NAMIGADDE or fellow Ugandan Jamal ALI SAÏD, homosexual and HIV positive, back to their country of origin where their lives will be in danger.

In fact, Uganda is a country which is uniquely dangerous for LGBT people (lesbian, gay, bi- and trans-sexual) or PLHIV (people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) following the submission, on 25 September 2009, of a proposed law by the parliamentarian David BAHATI, which would sentence them to death.

On 26 January, David KATO KISUULE, a Ugandan homosexual activist, was murdered in his home, by being battered with a hammer.

An Embassy representative came to hold, rather coldly, a semblance of a dialogue with our delegation. Meanwhile, at the obvious request of the Embassy, a supporter of TOTAL RESPECT was seen to be arrested by the police and then held in custody for three hours for an “identity check” by SARIJ (the judicial “welcome”, research and investigation service) at 210, Rue du Fbg-St-Honoré, Paris 8th arrondissement. They also confiscated two of the association’s posters at a cost of €20.
